They end up dead, missing, or in jail. A cargo ship and all its crew are blown out of the water off the coast of Venezuela, leaving only a mangy dog and a scheming vessel’s officer floating in a damaged raft. They are picked up by a cruise ship on which Joe Barrett, the international maritime lawyer, and his wife are spending their honeymoon. The incident initiates a worldwide investigation of a dirty mine in northern Brazil to a ruthless company in Luxembourg, from the run- down quarters of a failing steamship company in Iskenderun, to the glass towers of the insurance industry in London City. At the center of the storm is Joe Barrett and his legal team in midtown New York, trying to follow the money and figure out how a large cryptocurrency account ended up inside a dog collar.
