Description
In this research work, we modified the work of Moffat et al (2014) to incorporate treatment in the dynamics of the disease. We studied the modified model to investigatethe effect of treatment on the dynamics of the infection. The existence and stability of a disease-free equilibrium state of modified model was also established and was found to be locally asymptotically stable. The basic reproduction number R_0that governs the disease transmission was computed by the next generation operator method. A sensitivity analysis of the parameter of the model was carried out using R_0. From the analysis, it was found that parametersbeta, p and pihave highimpacts on R_0 and should be targeted by intervention strategies. Numerical experiments using published data show that treatment can be effective in reducing the number of infected people as well as the number of carriers. The sensitivity analysis of the model parameters, using [R]_0 also indicates that the number of carriers have high impact on the dynamics of the disease.
