Produktbeschreibung

The geographical scope of the Journal of Asian Historyis as vast as Asia itself. Its historical scope encompasses all periods, yet with a focus on the time before 1900. It is the editors’ hope that contributors will freely develop the “Through the Looking-Glass” aspect of history by implementing a variety of methodological approaches and utilizing a wide range of textual and non-textual sources. In particular, they welcome explorations of particular phenomena or events that provide insight into the dynamics of historical processes, elucidate historical change at turning points of history, and illuminate the conditions of all things that follow them. The journal publishes contributions in English and German. From the contents (altogether 17 contributions):Michael Nylan, The Common Good in Early China in ContextKai Wan Kwan, From Walled Passageways to Defensive Ramparts: A Study of the Shifting Meaning of the Term Jiacheng between ca. 700 and 900Ling Chen, Political Communication and Local Governance: The Public Space in Front of the Gate in Song Prefectures and CountiesElke Papelitzky, Sailing to Ayutthaya: European and Asian Navigation in the Gulf of Thailand in the Sixteenth to Eighteenth CenturiesKang Yu, Crossing Two Mountains”: The Management System of the Chang-Yu Road in Early Modern ChinaChen Zhang, The Limits of Empire: A Study of the Relationship between the Ming Dynasty and the Lan Xang Kingdom (1402–1613)
